About Mazandaran: Valley of the Giants

Mazandaran World Heritage Sites
Mazandaran Province offers two world heritage sites: Mount Damavand and the Hyrcanian forests.
Hyrcanian Forests
The forested massif of the Hyrcanian forests stretches 850 km along the southern coast of the Caspian Sea. Dating back 25-50 million years, these forests used to cover most of the North temperate region. These ancient forest areas retreated during the Quaternary glaciations and then expanded again as the climate became milder. In the Hyrcanian forests, 180 species of birds and 58 mammal species have been recorded, including the iconic Persian Leopard.
Mount Damavand
As the highest point in Iran, Mount Damavand is an inactive volcanic mountain that was activated in the Quaternary Period. The peak of Damavand is covered by snow during the entire year. Numerous thermal springs are on this mountain including the Larijan thermal spring. The Flora and Fauna are rich and include about 2000 plant species.

Mohammad Hasan Khan Bridge
Built by the Zand dynasty in the 17th century, Mohammad Hasan Khan (the region’s ruler at the time) ordered the construction of the bridge on the Babol River. Covering 140 meters, with a width of 6 meters, this bridge consists of 7 major and 2 minor arches.
Huto and Kamarband Caves
Located 5 km to the southwest of Behshahr city, these caves contained skeletons dating back 70000 years. Archeological discoveries have revealed prehistoric human life at the site belonging to the Neanderthal era. In addition to these skeletons, other things such as animal bones, pottery fragments, and flint have also been discovered.
Yakh-Morad Cave
Regarded as one of the most wonderful caves in the world, Yakh-Morad Cave is located near Gachsar. The icicles and lime lampshades increase the cave’s beauty. Warm in winter and cold in summer, this cave is around 70 to 230 million years old.
Kandolus Anthropology Museum
This cave is located on the top of a hill facing the village of Kandolus; this museum holds historical and cultural objects including historical documents, coins, manuscripts, clay works, farming and husbandry equipment, handicrafts, local clothes, wall paintings, etc.

Sisangan Natural Park
